- Standard Quiz Viewer: Used to administer a quiz that will be submitted for grading.
- Flash Cards: Used by students as a study tool for learning or reviewing new material.
- Category Challenge Game: Presents the quiz as a game similar to the popular Jeopardy TV game show.
- Image Map Viewer: Used to show a quiz that consists of one or more Section Image Maps (see Sections for more information on Section Image Maps). Special viewer includes a timer and is useful in a classroom setting in a competition type format.
How To Run/Administer A Quiz
There are two ways to run or administer a quiz via the computer:- Quiz Manager: While you are building or modifying quizzes, you can run the quiz right from inside the Quiz Manager. This is a great way to test the quiz and see how it will look when students take the quiz. Only the quiz authors will typically use this method for running quizzes. To run a quiz in the Quiz Manager, select the quiz in the navigator and click on the
button on the Quizzes toolbar. NOTE: You do NOT need to assign a quiz to a student to run the quiz from the Quiz Manager. - Quiz Player: The Quiz Player is a standalone application that is installed when you install Quiz Extreme that allows students to take quizzes that have been assigned to them. This separation of Quiz Player and Quiz Manager keeps students from accidentally or intentionally making changes to quizzes or results. The Quiz Player only allows students to see and take quizzes assigned to them and they are not able to make any changes to the quizzes. NOTE: Before any quizzes will be available in the Quiz Player, they must be assigned to the student who will be logging in. See Quiz Assignments for complete details.
Standard Quiz Viewer
The Standard Quiz Viewer is used when you want the student to submit the results of the quiz for grading. Using this viewer, students must interact with the quiz by putting a check in the appropriate box for multiple choice questions, type in the answer on short answer or essay questions, type in the answer on math questions, select a radio button on true/false, or specify the answers on fill-in-the-blank questions. Ath the end of the quiz, the student will see a summary screen that shows them the number they missed, and a percentage score. For Section Image Maps, students will have the image displayed in the middle of the screen and empty text boxes down the left and right sides of the image for students to type int he appropriate label for the question.
On Vocabulary/Matching sections, students will get the list of words down the left side column, and a list of answer possibilities down the right side. The answers will be sorted randomly and students will type in the letter of the matching answer.
Flash Cards
Use the Flash Card viewer as a way to help students study new material. This viewer allows the students to mark questions as correct or incorrect on their own. So, this is not a good viewer to use when you need to assign grades. The Flash Cards viewer gives the student a "card" with the question. Then, the student click the "Show Answer" button to see the answer. If they were correct, they should click the "Correct" button, and if they were incorrect, they should click the "Incorrect" button. At the end of the quiz, the student will get a summary screen showing the number of questions they missed and a percentage score.
Category Challenge Game
The Category Challenge Game viewer runs the quiz as a game, similar to the popular Jeopardy TV Game Show. Any quiz can be run as a Category Challenge Game without modification. However, the ideal way to structure a quiz that you plan to run as a Category Challenge Game is to create one section in the quiz for each category of questions that you want in the game, and add an even number of questions to each section. Also, keep the section names short.
