NOTE: If you plan to use your quiz in the Category Challenge game mode, you might consider organizing your questions into sections that represent categories (topic, type, etc.). When you run a quiz in Category Challenge mode, you have the option to have the questions organized randomly into categories, or use the sections that you have defined as "categories".
Types of Sections
There are several different type of sections that can be used in quizzes. All types of sections include a name, optional description, and option audio/visual multimedia elements. In addition, each section type has some specific properties:- Normal: Simply contain a list of one or more questions.
- Image Map: Consist of an image map instead of a list of questions. Using a Section Image Map, the quiz author includes a labeled map or diagram and assigns questions to various points on the map or diagram. See Section Image Map below for complete details.
- Vocabulary/Matching: Consists of a list of words or phrases and matching definitions or phrases. You cannot add questions to this type of section outside of the Section Edit Dialog. When administering a quiz via the computer, these sections show the list of words on the left and a randomized list of the answers on the right for the student to match. Print versions show the type of layout.
Section Properties
Sections have a number of properties that the quiz author can specify. To view and edit the details for a section, double-click on the desired section in the quiz editor while editing a quiz. The following properties are available on sections:- Name: The name of the section. When running a Category Challenge, this name will show up as the category heading unless you choose to have the categories generated at random.
- Type: The type of section. See details about Section Types above.
- Instructions: Instructions for the section. These instructions will show up on printed quizzes and during computer based testing.
- Randomize: If selected, the questions will be randomized in the section each time the quiz is printed or run.
- Audio Media: Use the
button to select an audio clip to embed into the section. Any audio types supported by your Windows Media Player are supported. If you have a file that is not supported by your Windows Media Player, you can visit Microsoft to find more information about supported file types in Windows Media Player. - Visual Media: Use the
button to select a video clip or an image to embed into the section. Any video types supported by your Windows Media Player and images of type PNG, JPG, GIF, and BMP are supported. If you have a file that is not supported by your Windows Media Player, you can visit Microsoft to find more information about supported file types in Windows Media Player.
Section Image Maps
Quiz Extreme provides a way to include an image relevant to an entire section. The quiz author can enter questions about the image by labelling various points on the image. Quiz takers match up the labels in a variety of ways. To work with the image map, make sure the section has its type set to "Image Map". Then, select the "Image Map Layout" item in the list at the left side of the section edit dialog.Specifying The Image
Specify the image by clicking the "Browse.." button on the Image Map Layout panel and locate the image file on your computer. Supported image types are PNG, JPG, and GIF.
Labelling the Image
The following image shows the Image Map Layout editor panel used for seleting the image and specifying points for labelling:

The image in this example is a picture of a compass rose. Notice how each of the directions (north, south, southwest, etc.) have a label. In the text box at the bottom of the dialog, specify the name, word, place, etc. that is represented by the label. A question will be created for each label on the image where the question text consists of the name, word, or place, and the answer being the label. When taking a quiz where a labelled image map is present, students will get a question for each point on the map.
Different Quiz Viewers and printed quizzes have different ways of actually prompting for answers, so the explanation above should be viewed as conceptual. Consult the documentation for individual Quiz Viewers and Printed Quizzes for details on specific presentation of the questions.
Adding a Point
To add a point to the image map, simply move the mouse crosshair cursor over the point where you want the point to be and single click the mouse. You can then specify a label value, name/word/place value, and font and shape information for the point.
Font, Color, Shapes
You may specify a font and font color for each label as well as a shape and shape color for the boundary of the label. When you add a new label it will inherit the properties from the currently selected label. If you want to make all of the labels match each other in font, size, color, and shape, click the "All Points Match" button.
Removing a Point
To remove a point from the image map, right-click on the label to be removed, and select "Remove Point".
Vocabulary/Matching Section
These sections, like Image Maps, are special in the sense that they don't allow the quiz author to add questions outside the Section Edit dialog. Use this type of section if you want to have a list of words and definitions and allow the student to match the word with its correct definition. The following image shows a sample Vocabulary/Matching section:
Specifying Your Vocabulary/Matching Items
Creating your list of words and definitions is very easy:
- Type a word in the text field at top of the panel and press ENTER.
